Hi Lydia, The question is do you see by your eyes or by your brain?
As you know, the white light is composed of colour of the rainbow. Everything around you will absorb the light and send it back (partially or totally) and your eyes will capture this light. By consequence you see only the reflection of the light. Take an example. The green that you see on an object is due to the object absorb all the others colour and reflect only the green. White is due to a full reflection and black a full absorption by the object that you are looking at. Then eyes work like a camera. You will find the same components in each system. The light comes to the eyes by the cornea where it is concentrated in the middle of the eyes. The iris will open to increase of diminish the quantity of light receive by the pupil. Then the light cross the crystalline lens where it adjust the focus and reverse the light. To finish, the light cross the liquid of the eyes and becomes a picture on your retina which is like a small screen then the picture is transfer to the brain which analyse it.
