  There must have been a huge advantage (like escaping predators) for early bird like animals to be able to glide or fly. Natural selection from then on!

  nothing suddenly appears evolution takes a long time. however there must have been some evolutionary advantage at some time.

  surely, if there was a cause for birds to evolve with wings, it would be a DISadvantage because as far as my knowledge goes, evolution occurs because it is nessecary for survival, most birds which are not predators eat crops and creatures that mostly occur on the ground. so if the NON predator birds’ food is on the floor, why need wings to hunt, surely its to escape predators, which goes back to my previous statement. surely it takes a disadvantage to cause an evolution.
